The Rodeo Story

Rodeo, or stampedes, began as friendly competitions between cowboys when ranchers and ranch hands gathered for picnics and race meets. The first formal stampede was held in Williams Lake in 1920 and the Lake City has become the Stampede Capital of BC!

Competitors from the First Nation communities and pioneer families became stampede stars. Today, the third and fourth generations of these families are on the rodeo road!
