The Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin is hiring 2 individuals with an interest in local history and
museums to the position of Museum Assistant for the 2021 summer season! Join our dynamic
team working towards the conservation and presentation of the history and heritage of the
Cariboo Chilcotin! The museum has delivered history and heritage programming, exhibits, and
events in Williams Lake for over 50 years. It is situated on the traditional territory of the
Secwépemc, Dakelh, and Tŝilhqot’in Nations.

Job title: Museum Assistant
Duration: May 10 – August 30 (16 weeks)
Hours per week: 35
Wage: $16/hour

Duties:
 Visitor reception, engagement, and museum tours
 Assist with ongoing collections management and exhibit projects
 Assist in developing events and programming opportunities, including assisting in the
development of virtual museum tours and evaluating and redeveloping school tours
 Research and write exhibit and artifact signage and labels as part of a project to
redesign the interpretive signage in the museum’s exhibits
 Conduct research to fulfill inquiries from members of the public, assist in research
requests by locating necessary documents and files
 Process museum membership sign-ups, renewals, and payments
 Assist with daily tasks such as cleaning, filing, and general organization
 Assist in opening and closing the museum
 Other tasks as required

Requirements:
 Strong skills in research, writing, and critical thinking
 Strong communication and interpersonal skills
 Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
 To comply with grant funding, candidates must be between the ages of 16 and 30,
legally entitled to work in Canada, and be returning to full time post-secondary studies
in the fall.
 Must be available to work weekends, and some evenings as required
 Preference will be given to post-secondary students and those entering a post-
secondary program in the fields of museum studies, history, Indigenous studies,
Canadian history, and similar.

Two positions are available, subject to funding.
